I was shocked and disturbed to find Nazi symbols of hatred and racism on display at Canada’s Parliament. These symbols of oppression are repugnant and have no place in our country.

The individuals responsible for promoting hatred and prejudice do not embody Canadian values and they undermine the earnest work of the vast majority of protestors.

There have also been acts of desecration towards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the National War Memorial, and the statue of Canadian hero Terry Fox. These are the reprehensible acts of cowardice and I urge those responsible to consider for a moment the sacrifices of our Veterans and the incredible act of courage Canadian hero Terry Fox displayed in his run for a cure to cancer.

I unequivocally reject the small group of agitators who are purposely sidetracking the peaceful protest of those advocating for the end to the COVID mandates both federally and provincially. Rather, I choose to stand with the majority who protest peacefully and understand and value our history and the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom and liberty.

Jamie Schmale
Member of Parliament,
Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock
