OTTAWA: Local MP Jamie Schmale rose in the House of Commons today to make a statement recognizing the heroic actions of Lindsay native James Blair, his fellow colleagues, and first responders during the recent incident at Dunbarton High School in Pickering.
On Tuesday February 23, when an armed assailant, later determined to be a student suffering from mental stress, entered the high school, Mr. Blair, and his fellow staff members put themselves at risk to ensure the safety of other students and assist in ending the incident.
In the House of Commons, Schmale praised the actions of these staff members. “It is clear, this incident, could have been much worse if it wasn’t for the efforts of not only Mr. Blair, but his co-workers and first responders. Mr. Speaker, This is an example of some of the fine people responsible for educating our children.”
In his statement, Schmale thanked all educators for their dedication and for continually going above and beyond the call of duty in ensuring that our youth are prepared for the challenges ahead.
“On behalf of the House, I would like to thank Mr. Blair, all the staff and management at Dunbarton High School, and all the first responders for their efforts” said Schmale. “It is also my hope that the students, trying to come to terms with what happened, are able to get the help and support they need.”
