LINDSAY – Local MP Jamie Schmale announced a total of $44,500 for Celebrate Canada events across Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock.
“Celebrate Canada activities have become a tradition offering Canadians the opportunity to share their pride in their country,” said Schmale. “The success of these events is due, in great part, to the volunteer members who work tirelessly to ensure each Canadian has an opportunity to enjoy local celebrations.”
“In 2017 we will celebrate our Country’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, I invite all residents of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock to come out and take part in these events that celebrate our pride, our values and our accomplishments,” said Schmale. “By supporting events like this, our communities are strengthened and public awareness about our own history and heritage is increased.”
The money will be used to help cover some of the costs of the various Canada Day celebrations taking place across the riding. Events such as live music, family games, fireworks, free barbeques, children’s activities and parades will be offered.
The successful applicants are:
- Beaverton Lions Club will receive $6,000
- Cannington Lions Club will receive $4,000
- City of Kawartha Lakes will receive $27,200
- Algonquin Highlands will receive $500
- Gooderham will receive $1,700
- Minden Hills will receive $3,500
- Township of Cavan Monaghan will receive $1,500
“It is important to thank all the volunteers and municipal staff members for their hard work in preparing these events and their applications for funding,” stated Schmale. “Having the opportunity to thank people for their hard work and commitment to making our communities better is an extreme honour and privilege for any Member of Parliament, including myself.”
